About Us
For more than fifty years, Keene Youth Hockey Club has been teaching the children of the Monadnock Region the value of sportsmanship, dedication and team work. Our coaches emphasize safety, fun and skills (in that order). Our teams are very competitive in the Granite State League because of the emphasis on fun, not in spite of it.
Whether your son or daughter is just learning to skate or playing at a competitive, travel level, we have something for everyone. We strive to instill the following ideals:
- the development of personal and social skills
- a love for the game of ice hockey
- the ideal of fair play and sportsmanship.
We exemplify the principles of USA Hockey and, through excellence in coaching, develop the finest young men and women possible. We provide a fun environment for players of all ages, levels of commitment, with equal opportunity for all
Here are some of the reasons why we are the leading ice hockey organization in Southwest New Hampshire:
There's a place for everyone
From beginners who have never played ice hockey before to elite travel teams competing for a state crown, we have options for children no matter what their level of commitment.
Our Learn to Play Hockey program helps youngsters learn the game in a non-competitive environment at their own pace. The commitment is light (only once per week and free!). From there, they move to the House Program which introduces games along with continuing development through skill practices. All ice sessions are at Cheshire Fair Ice Arena and the tuition price is quite reasonable. Players may choose to stay at the House League level through twelve years old.
For more competitive players, we have travel teams that play in the Granite State League. These teams practice twice per week and play either one or two games per weekend (half of which are at Cheshire Fair Ice Arena). In addition, our travel teams participate in at least one and up to three weekend tournaments per year.
Top-Level Coaches
At KYHC, we recognize that our program is only as good as its leaders. That's why we emphasize life-long learning and achievement to all of our coaches.
More than half of our head coaches are USA Hockey Level IV certified. That is the highest level USA Hockey recommends for amateur level coaches. Each is required to attend training sessions and are evaluated on a monthly basis. We strongly encourage (and fund) all of our coaches to pursue a certification clinic no less than once every two years.
We are affordable
We strive to keep ice hockey affordable. Even though KYHC dues are perenially amongst the lowest in the state, we recognize that the cost of hockey in general is higher than other sports.
It is our belief that every child should be given the opportunity to play ice hockey, regardless of financial situation. To that end, our Learn to Play Hockey program is absolutely free and we offer a house league program that keeps both travel and tuition cost reasonable.
We recognize that our members want option in how to satisfy their obligation to the organization. That's why fundraisers are an important part of our ability to keep our dues low. Each member is given the choice of participating in fundraising activities or “buying-out” of the obligation.
