KYHC Volunteer Screening Policy

Keene Youth Hockey Club takes the safety and security of its members very seriously, and to that end, we have instituted a screening policy for our volunteers.  Our policy is designed to comply with USA Hockey and NHAHA screening guidelines.

All members of the KYHC Board of Directors and head coaches, assistant coaches and SDP instructors undergo criminal background checks through axciom.com.  The club reimburses Board members and rostered coaches for the cost of the screening through a fundraising credit once submitted for reimbursement.  Once screened, their names are added to the club website (http://www.keenehockey.org) and the Club bulletin board at Cheshire Fair Arena under our “list of screened volunteers.”  Volunteers’ records are reviewed every two years.

It is the policy of Keene Youth Hockey that no club activity/event shall take place unless at least one screened coach/board member is present at all times.

While we cannot guarantee the integrity or intentions of any individuals, we can at least be sure that board members’ and named coaches’ past records contain no events that would indicate any cause for concern to our members.

This is a close-knit hockey community.  Many members volunteer their time in other capacities (score keepers, team managers, fundraisers, etc.).  They may be screened voluntarily, at their own expense.  KYHC cannot reimburse screening costs for these additional persons.

Familiarity of persons and faces from the rink, knowledge of players by name, or use of Keene Youth Hockey logo on apparel should not be confused as any sanctioning, assurances, or official relationship with Keene Youth Hockey Club.  Only screened individuals are authorized to work with children on a one-on-one basis on behalf of the club.

Parents should be aware that the ultimate responsibility for their children’s safety rests with them.  Members should be aware of their, and their children’s, environment at all times.  If parents feel uncomfortable about individuals unknown to them at the rink (and especially away rinks), they should share their concerns with a near-by board member or coach.

This policy is in full effect September 1, 2008.
